Description:  
This course is the first in a three-year program to prepare students to successfully complete New York State's Comprehensive Examination in English. Students will study, practice, and develop fundamental writing skills, including basic methods of library research.  This course emphasizes sentence structure as well as standard American conventions of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.  Students will be introduced to representational works of the major genres and methods for reading and responding critically.  Readings may include And Then There Were None, The Tell-Tale Heart, The Cask of Amontillado, The Black Cat, and a variety of other short stories and poems.

About Our Virtual Class:
  • Though our English class is beginning online, it is still a class. 
  • In-class assignments, assessments, and homework count toward your average. 
  • All assignments must be completed on time and to the best of your ability.
  • Mr. Spicer will not accept late work unless there are extenuating circumstances (such as an illness).
 
Virtual Class Guidelines:
  • Find an appropriate environment or setting that minimizes noise and/or distractions.
  • Dress appropriately, as if you were actually coming to school.
  • Your camera must stay on during class.
  • Mute your microphone.  You may turn it on when it is your turn to speak.
